about

I always liked getting some level of context behind the records I like, so that’s my hope for what this note will be. The tone of the EP is meant to be very wintry-- not necessarily sad, but hopefully evoking some sense of melancholy. My favorite song on the album (right now) is the Gambino / Porter Robinson track, and I really wanted to make sure that track went last, so the final thing a listener hears is that Childish refrain.

Most of this EP as made really late at night -- I was between apartments, working a lot, sleeping on friends’ couches, and keeping odd hours where I couldn’t fall asleep and would make a lot of music in the middle of the night, and hearing it now reminds me of those late night solo walks around the Mission and Nob Hill. Also, I was really psyched to put two of my favorite rappers on here that I haven‘t been able to feature much on before -- Logic and Childish put out some of my favorite music in 2014.

“i mean i guess” is one of those interesting turns of phrases -- it seems to communicate that you agree with someone in the most disagreeable way possible, as if to say “you’ve forced my hand into agreeing, so here I am, agreeing, begrudgingly.” I find it so interesting because such a short phrase can communicate a lot more than a simple ‘yes.’
